Purpose
The Women’s Energy Network Alliance (WENA) is a non-incorporated, voluntary, collaborative alliance of UK-based women’s networks operating across the energy sector. WENA exists to connect and amplify the work of its member networks, helping to improve gender diversity, equity and inclusion across the UK energy ecosystem.
WENA acts as a network of networks — providing a trusted umbrella, safe space and collective voice, while respecting the independence and distinct missions of each member network.

WENA operates according to the following shared principles
Principles
• Collaboration over competition – reducing silos and duplication
• Inclusion – proactive efforts to reflect diverse experiences, career stages, and backgrounds across the energy sector. We will leave no woman behind.
• Trust and psychological safety – a safe space for open dialogue and respectful challenge
• Clarity – transparency about roles, activities and purpose
• Voluntary participation – engagement by choice, not obligation

What WENA does
WENA’s agreed role is to:
• Convene member networks for collaboration and shared learning
• Act as a connector and signpost across the women-in-energy ecosystem
• Amplify the voices, activities and impact of member networks
• Provide a coordinated, collective voice where agreed, reflecting shared positions
• Improve visibility of mentoring, role models, events and opportunities
WENA does not replace, direct or govern individual networks, nor does it assume legal or financial responsibility for them.

FAQs
Membership
• Membership is open to UK-based, not-for-profit, social enterprise or purpose-led women’s networks aligned with WENA’s purpose.
• Each member network retains full autonomy, identity and governance.
• Participation is voluntary and non-exclusive.
Coordination & Decision-Making
• WENA is coordinated through a light-touch Advisory Council, made up of representatives from participating networks.
• The Advisory Council’s role is facilitative, not directive.
• Decisions are made by consensus wherever possible, or otherwise by a clearly recorded majority of participating members.
• Where consensus cannot be reached, no network is obliged to participate in a given initiative. This does not prevent WENA from progressing initiatives supported by a subset of members.
Roles within WENA
• Advisory Council: Facilitates shared priorities, maintains clarity of purpose, safeguards values.
• Working Groups (as needed): Time-limited groups formed around specific themes or initiatives, with a named lead and defined scope and duration.
• Chair: A time-limited role appointed by the Advisory Council to provide coordination and act as a point of contact, and facilitate coordination on behalf of the Alliance.
• Deputy Chair: A time-limited role which may also be appointed by the Advisory Council to support the Chair
